Hire a private Island for your wedding!

Yes that’s right ….a private island!

The Île à Bois https://www.homelidays.com/hebergement/p6659742

in the North of Brittany is for hire and it’s incredible!

I’m not advertising it as much as recommending it because I was so bowled over when I discovered it!

I was booked by the loveliest, young , Irish bride to perform her wedding ceremony there last week. It was a very long drive for me because I live in South West France near Bordeaux. She also wanted my husband’s band  www.georgesmithmusik.com to provide all the music……so we all drove up in convoy not knowing what to expect. It was raining and the journey began to get tiresome as we headed into the Northern heart of Brittany. George was getting grumpy at the prospect of performing in the rain and staying on a wet , remote island. I was chirpy and optimistic but secretly a little worried myself at the possible folly of it all.

When we arrived at the little private road across to the Island all our anxieties disappeared. It was more beautiful than we could have imagined!

Catherine Frey’s grandfather bought the island just after the war and it has been loved and nurtured ever since by the family. It has a lovely large house for guests which sleeps 17 and a couple of German War Bunkers ( completely renovated and modernised , of course,) for overflow guests. It was amazing to sleep in one of these bunkers and think about those poor German lads no older than my youngest son having to live in those bunkers in a land where they’re hated more than is possible to imagine!

Anyway we’re all friends now and it’s all been transformed into a land to celebrate  “LOVE”.

I’m so pushed for time at the moment. It’s wedding season “extraordinaire” and I’ve hardly time to tweet , never mind blog….

The wedding was a huge success ‘of course’ in charming Irish Style ………

So I’ll leave you with a few lovely photos of the venue and add to this post with an anecdote “plus tard”
